The NAEGA National Conference is well established as a key event for adult guidance practitioners.
The 2008 event will enhance this reputation as it offers an intensive programme centering on the themes of personal, social and economic growth through the advancement of adult guidance.

The NAEGA National Conference

The programme is packed with learning and networking opportunities for people new to the sector as well as experienced practitioners, managers, policy strategists, and those working on their own, in small teams or for large service providers. It will focus on finding ways to:

  • Deliver excellent services for clients
  • Develop personal and professional effectiveness
  • Ensure positive outcomes for clients.

The aim of the conference is to give delegates access to valuable information, experience and resources. By the end, everyone will have had a chance to:

  • Access the latest research
  • Analyse new thinking
  • Discover creative solutions
  • Explore new initiatives
  • Have their say
  • Identify effective practice
  • Make new contacts
  • Network with like-minded professionals
  • Understand changes
  • Support NAEGA as the national association advocating a universally available service for IAG/adult guidance

The format has been developed to offer delegates the opportunity to design a personal itinerary particularly suited to individual professional needs. By doing this you can build on your specific experience to gather the right information for your own work situation. In addition to keynote lectures and panel discussions on areas of special interest, there are 22 subject-specific workshops to choose from.

These cover a diverse range of issues and are presented in a variety of formats by peers representing the private and public sectors, individual consultants and statutory bodies. There are also posters introducing smaller initiatives and exhibitors promoting products and services. There is something for everyone.

Call for posters

Following its successful introduction in 2007, and to give delegates an opportunity to disseminate information and ideas about their practice, initiatives and continuing professional development, we are again including a session in the programme for Posters and Speed Networking.

There will be space in the exhibition area at the Conference to ‘hang’ posters. There is no restriction on content or format. Last year posters included a work-shadowing scheme, a consultation on NAEGA’s priorities and a prescriptions for health project. However, should we be oversubscribed the Planning Committee will make a selection. There will also be a prize awarded for the best poster on display.

Posters should:

  • Give a flavour of their author’s work
  • Outline main points clearly and concisely in a readily accessible format
  • Clearly state author and subject
  • Avoid too dense text
  • Maximum size acceptable is A1 (flip chart size)

The intention is to give delegates an insight into the work undertaken and its impact on service delivery or policy development. Posters will be displayed from the Monday evening until Wednesday lunchtime in the main exhibitor and coffee hub. On Tuesday morning the Conference programme will include a dedicated hour for the perusal of posters and exhibitors in addition to the normal coffee breaks.

In this session poster authors will be able to briefly (very briefly) introduce their posters to groups of delegates who will rotate at set intervals from poster to poster. This short, sharp session will be quite lively and noisy. You may wish to augment your poster with a handout.

How do I book a poster ‘spot’?

Please send a short summary or outline of your poster to naega@emmm.co.uk (Clearly marked Poster Proposal) by July 11 2008 and we will confirm arrangements by email. Any queries regarding posters please contact the conference office on the email address above.
