This workshop describes the evolution of the Northumberland Removing Barriers to Work Partnership’s multi-agency strategy and the challenges it faces in tackling employability needs in the mixed urban and rural county of Northumberland.

09. Information, advice and guidance to offenders – What works (OLASS project)

An examination of the partnership between ease, the probation service and the offender to identify key areas in what makes this service work. It will also share how the service operates and showcase success.

10. Coaching and mentoring: Challenging or reinforcing the status quo?

Claims have been made about the impact of coaching and mentoring on organisational culture: they assist the process of change, create more people centered and supportive cultures. Our research explores the link and raises questions about these findings.

11. Making change sustainable through emotional intelligence

Change is easy, its not changing back that is difficult. Emotional intelligence provides a mechanism for understanding the relationship between our attitudes, feelings and behaviour. This session will present seven recommendations for making change sustainable through attitude change.

14. Safeguarding – More than just safer recruitment

The media often highlight the importance of safeguarding young people, but it is essential providers ensure the safety of all users. Effective safeguarding demands an on-going culture of vigilance. This workshop explores what providers should be doing.

15. Later life – Positive opportunities not unfortunate fate!

Effective strategies for planning and managing the latter part of our working lives. A look at the work of Age Concern’s BoB project for older workers and learners and how age need not be a negative influence.

16. The role of employers in informing career choices

What is the role of employers in career choice? Should employers be attempting this, can they be impartial and can they be expected to do it well? This workshop will explore these questions with input from the SSC network.

17. Mindfulness based programmes
