Lifelong learning logo

Lifelong Learning UK is the Sector Skills Council responsible for the professional development of all those working in career guidance; community learning and development; further education; higher education; libraries, archives and information services; and work based learning.

In partnership with employers across the UK, Lifelong Learning UK works with the sector to develop and improve the skills of its workforce. Our mission is to ensure that lifelong learning employers can recruit, retain and develop highly skilled and effective staff, capable of bringing out the best in their learners.

Lifelong Learning UK is working to produce a strategy for the development of the career guidance workforce across the UK (excluding providers of services to young people in England who are represented by the Children’s Workforce Development Council). The career guidance workforce includes practitioners working for specialist career guidance organisations and those working in other settings such as universities, colleges, community learning and the private and voluntary sectors.

This strategy will be developed in consultation with the sector to identify key priorities for the professional development of the career guidance workforce. Given the complexity of the sector a key task will be the development of a qualifications strategy, informed by National Occupational Standards, for organisations delivering specialist career guidance services and network partners.
